ESSENTIALLY MELBOURNE

Melbourne Southbank ’15\\ With the ushering in of September, we’ve been repeatedly pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the Melbourne sky is during sunset – hence the many highway-driving sunset insta pics recurring on my feed. Or maybe us being in extreme awe of the sky just shows how extraordinarily dreary this year’s Melbourne winter was. Nevertheless, Jaz and I booked in a date in each other’s calendars of an afternoon in search of aesthetically pleasing sunsets in the CBD. Thinking of the perfect spot for some skyline filming and photography was harder than we thought – Melbourne isn’t exactly New York. After racking our brains, I remembered reading and from an online article I only faintly recall, of a place above Hamer Hall that had a gorgeous view of Melbourne. So we took a gamble and I’d say it paid off 3/4 of the way. We didn’t manage to catch any sunset shots – turns out the CBD’s skyscrapers completely blocked out our westerly view – but we did realise how amazing The Place Above …

AT THE DOCK, DOCKLANDS BY JAZ

A while ago, Meutz and I made our way to the Melbourne’s land of the dock (ahem, Docklands) with our cameras in hand and intention of capturing the heart of the area through motion and stills. We chose to make separate videos to show off our own styles and depict Docklands through each of our individual perspectives. You can see Meut’s final product here. Of course, me, bring the less punctual and less organised of the two ran into a few problems while editing the footage. Firstly, it took me few weeks months to actually piece this together (I got Netflix okay). Secondly, I had to convert the footage to a lower quality format because my computer couldn’t handle the DSLR quality and, and then as I was 90% done, some of the original high quality videos decided to run away and hide. Hence, some of the footage in the video is of a slightly nostalgic and blurred filter – I’m deciding to say that it looks more romantic, Definitely intentional. But there’s a third and …
