Uncommon – round 2

I’m that person who gets obsessed easily – listening to the same Tame Impala song over and over and over and over again until I discover a new one, wearing a new jumper every day and neglecting all other woolly counterparts, and having 13 meals in a row of curry until sushi takes over beckoning my heart for another two weeks. This completely rings true for eating out – exemplified by my brisk return to Uncommon (remember that time I went to Vertue 3 times in a week?) This time, with my parents trailing behind me through Chapel Street, I was met with a 8  person deep queue at the door. A 15 minute wait later and we were seated in the busy but open cafe. Coffee was fruity and delicious – Industry Beans always hits the spot. As always, my parents headed to the meaty dishes.  Mum’s crisp duck was equally gorgeous , complemented by a spectrum of sour flavours from the raw pear kimchi and sour barberry vinaigrette. Can you believe it – finding a new cafe not through Zomato or trending instagram posts, but the old fashioned way of walking past it? After an average lunch at Tokyo Tina, we were headed back to Windsor station when I stopped in my tracks to the sight of this leafy sanctuary. All I could do was take a quick snap and leave with the promise of coming back. And so I did, bringing Meut along as well. My usual soy latte was a great one – smooth and bold. Meut’s wattleseed chai was floral and sweet, although I reckon she was more enamored with the ceramic cup it came in. I had the salmon and eggs – probably a dish deserving of the title of my favourite brunch in Melbourne. It just so happened to mix in all my lovers – salmon pastrami, herbed eggs laced with chilli capers and plenty of dill, toasted seeds and kernels, and whipped honey. So delicately sweet and salty and creamy and herby and fresh. Delish. And now …
